Contest Rules:
Each poster must be created by an individual student, not a team of students.
The theme “Home is Where the Habitat is” must be included on the front side of each poster.
The back of each poster must have student’s name, grade level, teacher’s name, school and parent or guardian signature.
Any media may be used to create flat or two dimensional effect including paint, crayons, colored pencils, charcoal, paper, or other materials.
Posters must be made on poster board, please contact the NPCD office if financial assistance with purchasing poster boards is needed.
60 lb. paper and 11" x 17" is the suggested size for posters, however the district will accept any size over 8.5" x 11".
Deadlines:
Schools and organizations will hold poster contests no later than March 2025, teachers and organization leaders are to choose first and second place winners form each grade category for their school or organization.
All entries must be submitted to NPCD office by Monday, April 7th, 2025.
NPCD will hold district contest on Thursday, April 10th, 2025. The district will select a first place winner from each grade level.
Winnings posters will advance to the state competition and will be announced in October 2025.
2025 Annual Poster Contest
Theme: “Home is Where the Habitat is”
NPCD encourages schools and organizations in the Northern Panhandle to participate and represent West Virginia at the national level in the National Conservation Poster Contest sponsored by the National Association of Conservation Districts and the WV Association of Conservation Districts.
Open to all public, private and homeschool students in grades K-12
Prizes:
District First Place Winners receive $30
District Second Place Winners receive $20
Classroom Teacher or Organization Leaders receive $25
2025 Annual Photo Contest
Sponsored by the Northern Panhandle Conservation District (NPCD) & WV Association of Conservation Districts (WVACD)
This contest is open to amateur photographers (adults and youth) residing in the following counties: Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, and Marshall. Each category will have winners in both the adult and youth divisions. Winning photos will be sent to the state level for further judging by the WVACD, and the state winners will then be forwarded to the National Association of Conservation Districts for national judging.
Prizes:
District First Place Winners receive $75
District Second Place Winners receive $50
District Third Place Winners receive $25
Photo Specifications:
Photos can be black-and-white, color, or digital prints.
Reproductions from printed publications are not allowed.
Photo Size: Must be 8x10 inches. Framed or matted photos will not be accepted.
Digital Alterations: Photos should not be digitally altered except for necessary cropping, burning, or dodging.
Photo Information:
A 3x5 notecard must be attached to the back of each photo, containing the following details:Schools and organizations will hold poster contests no later than March 2025, teachers and organization leaders are to choose first and second place winners form each grade category for their school or organization.
Photographer's name and phone number.
Title of the photograph (must match the title on the entry form).
Subject(s): Names and titles for people in the photo (spelled correctly).
Location: Specify the farm, city park, or area where the photo was taken (including county and state).
Description: Provide a short description of the scene (e.g., what is happening, what's being depicted).
Date of Photo: The year is sufficient; exact dates are not required.

Please print out the form linked below, fill it out and mail it in with your photo and the other materials listed in the “contest guidelines” section and submit to the Northern Panhandle Conservation District office by Friday, June 6th, 2025
